I’ve always liked the song, “Praise the Lord with the Sound of Trumpet.” In particular, these lyrics have always been good a good spiritual “nudge” for me:
“Praise the Lord in the field and forest,
praise the Lord in the city square,
praise the Lord anytime and anywhere.”
Eastern Christian School lives out the lyrics of this song! I thought I’d share two quick examples from this school year:
I was fortunate enough to be a chaperone for the EC Honors choir in New York City earlier this year as they practiced for their performance at Carnegie Hall this Christmas season:
EC students were given the opportunity to perform in one of the most celebrated music spaces on planet earth. Students were required to pursue excellence, work hard, and achieve greatly. And they knocked it out of the park!
I was also fortunate enough to be with the EC Choir as they performed a “Flash Choir” at the Garden State Plaza Mall as hundreds of passersby were serenaded with “Forever” in the food court on a Friday night.
EC students were given the opportunity to perform a “one shot only” impromptu performance in a very busy food court in one of the biggest malls in the area. Students were required to be bold, confident, and even think through the evangelical impact of their actions. And they did!
While both choir performances were very different venues and audiences, both offered a great example of the mission of Eastern Christian School. Carnegie Hall has the glitz and glamor. And Eastern Christian students were there- singing praise to God. The food court at the mall is much closer to the “city square” that I referenced earlier. And Eastern Christian students were there- singing praise to God.
I’m so proud of our students- and in particular our choir program- for taking these opportunities head on, putting in the work, and, when the moment was right, performing to the best of their abilities to the glory of God. Thanks to Dr. Elizabeth Yoder and Mrs. Garreth for leading our students in these exciting opportunities!
“I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.” -Psalm 104:33
